Fungal Nail Treatment — Victoria Park
Thickened, yellow, brittle or crumbly toenails are often blamed on “fungus” — but not every abnormal nail is fungal. At Victoria Park Podiatry, we look at the pattern, contributing factors (like trauma and footwear), and recommend a realistic treatment pathway based on how much nail is involved.
Common signs of fungal toenails (onychomycosis)
- Yellow/brown discoloration that gradually spreads
- Thickening and hard-to-trim nails
- Crumbly debris under the nail
- Nail lifting or distortion
- Associated athlete’s foot / itchy skin between toes
What we can do
- Nail debridement — reducing thickness to improve comfort and help topical treatments penetrate.
- Topical treatment plan — guidance on what actually has a chance of working and how long it takes.
- Foot hygiene & prevention — shoe disinfection, sock choices, and moisture control.
- When to discuss oral medication — we’ll advise when GP-prescribed options may be appropriate.
Why fungal nails are hard to “cure” quickly
Toenails grow slowly. Even when treatment is effective, a healthy nail needs time to grow out from the base. We set expectations early so you can stick with a plan that matches your timeframe and goals.
Tip: check your shoes
If you keep reinfecting your feet from damp shoes, treatments struggle. We’ll show you simple ways to reduce moisture and contamination so progress lasts.
